The orthodontic rubber band has been widely used for several orthodontic purpose especially for diastema closure of maxillary central incisors. However, improper use of orthodontic rubber band results in periodontal disease and sometimes makes tooth loss. Cases on iatrogenic periodontal destruction have been reported from 1870s. As treatment for this, several treatments have been introduced. But above all, to prevention this disease, it is most important to remove the orthodontic rubber band at proper time. The aim of this study was to report a case of a male patient who had iatrogenic periodontal disease for 9 years due to improper use of orthodontic rubber band for upper maxillary anterior diastema closure.
